“Thirteen” has come up over and over in my life. These are the values I strive to live by, model
for others, and teach my children — and the values to live by to find true wealth.

FRAMEWORK
Three Types of Wealth
1. Monetary wealth refers to the financial assets and resources you possess — cash, accounts,
investments, real estate, and other assets with monetary value. It’s typically measured as net
worth: total assets minus liabilities. Most people think only about building monetary wealth. Two
subtypes are inherited wealth and retirement wealth, both of which often involve coming into
large sums of money abruptly.
2. Self-serving wealth refers to creating and using financial resources primarily for your own
benefit and self-interest, prioritizing personal gain and maximizing your own wealth without
considering the well-being or needs of others. It often places a high value on luxury and social
status, and can trap people in a scarcity mindset that keeps them from using what they have to
experience real fulfillment.
3. True wealth refers to the lifelong, net experience of deep happiness, fulfillment, and learning.
You need the freedom and opportunity that financial security provides to be truly wealthy — but
monetary wealth alone doesn’t guarantee you’ll find true wealth.

• Built a new City Hall on time and on budget — without new taxes or debt.
• Achieved Orem’s first AAA bond rating from S&P (top 2% of U.S. cities).
• Enhanced emergency dispatch services while reducing costs.
• Supported strategic lobbying and full-time grant writing to expand non-taxpayer funding.
• Secured 45 grants totaling $23.2 million in outside funding.

Water Security, Sustainability & Parks

• Upgraded Lakeview Park after acquiring $2 million in outside grants for turf and lighting.
• Increased water storage by 35% through a 10-million-gallon tank and a 1,000-foot well.• Reduced citywide water use by 10%.
• Began construction on a $20 million water reuse facility, personally securing $13 million in grants and
limiting the taxpayer cost to just $7 million.
• Redeveloped Hillcrest Park into an award-winning community destination with pickleball courts, a
splash pad, and a community center.

Education, Culture & Community
• Championed school district reform to support safer, upgraded, and more equitable neighborhood
schools.
• Transformed the Orem Library with new leadership and an immersive vision, increasing foot traffic by
27%.
• Strengthened the SCERA arts partnership.
• Achieved national recognition for Orem’s School Resource Officer program.
• Implemented the myHometown program to promote neighborhood service and connection.
• Brought the Bingham Public Health Clinic to Orem.
